having an outcrop exposure which occupies the central and western parts of the Obosum Syncline. Lower part of Obosum Gr.

Lithology and Thickness

It consists of pink to grey feldspathic arenites predominate, intercalated with subordinate beds of variegated, red or green mudstone and siltstone. The sandstones show fine-scale trough cross-lamination and contain red or green mudflakes. About 5.7km south of Densubon, pink, medium- to fine-grained, highly micaceous arkosic sandstones with local trough cross-lamination are present in roadside exposures. To the west, exposures along the Ejura-Atebubu road show pink, fine-grained, micaceous and feldspathic quartz-arenites with trough cross-lamination and maroon mudflakes. Although compositional maturity is relatively high in these sandstones, beds of more immature dark red, micaceous, fine- to medium-grained feldspathic and lithic arenites are also present (Carney et al., 2010).

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It overlies conformably the Dunkro Sandstone in the south, with the possibility of lateral gradation between the two units, and rests unconformably on the Afram Fm and Ejura Fm (Oti-Pendjari Gr) farther west.

Upper contact

Overlain conformably by the Tamale Fm (Tamale Sandstone Fm)

Depositional setting

The associated sedimentary structures suggest deposition by flash floods and braided streams in wadi, alluvial fan and floodplain environments (Carney et al., 2010). Paleocurrent directions in both the Dunkro and Densubon formations are mainly to the WSW.
